STORM FORCE will
1. save time on disseminating important weather warnings
to key individuals. Saving time will mean adding time to prepare everyone for the approaching severe weather. More time means
less panic.
2. be
the “one voice” for issuing this information will mean less conflicting and confusing information. Everyone
will be on the same page and will be coordinated and unified in an effort to avoid death and injuries.
3. supply schools with an important benefit. Currently there is no
statewide weather emergency plan in place and because of the nature of the school set up where any information would now have
to come into the Superintendents office and in turn that information would have to be passed along to principals and on to
teachers to keep the students safe takes too much time. STORM FORCE eliminates the trickle down effect of the information.
Each superintendent, building supervisor, and principal would be on the service and be instantly notified of threatening weather
and warnings and be able to take immediate action. We are also offering for the school districts in the state, an in-service
workshop on “Surviving the Storm: What to know to stay safe in Schools”. This workshop will instruct teachers
and school personnel on what to do in various storm situations. Storms require immediate action and there is little
or no time for a principal or school official to give instructions on a severe weather situation. When notified of an
imminent storm situation, Teachers and school personnel need to know what to do with their students to keep them safe.
This workshop will do just that.
4. provide information even in a power outage as the
messages are transmitted through cell phone, unlike faxes or even e-mail transmissions that rely on electricity.
5. build
trust in officials and the public to listen to warnings when they are issued. This will increase the general response
of the public as they will learn that there will be no over warning. When they are advised to take shelter, they will
do so without hesitation.
